Alliance to Prevent Youth Suicide Champions
Co-chair - Amee Moreno, CPNP-PC/AC
Dr. Amee Moreno is a pediatric nurse practitioner certified in primary and acute care. She is faculty at Baylor University in the DNP program at the Louise Herrington School of Nursing, where she teaches in the Dual Track PNP program. Her clinical background as a nurse is in Pediatric Critical Care, and as an NP is in Pediatric Neurosciences and Rehabilitation. She has served in leadership roles in many settings, including clinical settings, AFPNP, NAPNAP and Baylor University. Dr. Moreno currently serves as President of the Association of Faculties of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (AFPNP). She is passionate about improving the identification of youth who are at risk for suicide and empowering health care professionals in all clinical settings to implement suicide screening practices.
Co-chair - Naomi A. Schapiro, RN, PhD, CPNP-PC
Naomi Schapiro, RN, PhD, CPNP-PC, is Professor Emerita of Family Health Care Nursing at UCSF. She has provided health care to low-income adolescents in full scope pediatric and adolescent primary care clinics and SBHCs for over 20 years, most recently at La Clínica de la Raza. She has over thirty years’ experience working with children and adolescents, including immigrant families, incarcerated youth and survivors of child sexual abuse. Dr. Schapiro has championed the practice of integrated, trauma-informed primary care and behavioral health and the teaching of enhanced behavioral health skills to pediatric primary care providers, including screening and assessment for suicidal ideation and behaviors. Her research has involved strategies for family reunification, and general adaptation of newcomer immigrant Latinx youth, the impact of academic-community partnerships on school-based health care, best practices for implementing ACE screening, and the appropriateness of rapid trauma symptom screens in young adolescents. Dr. Schapiro is co-chair of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Alliance for the Prevention of Youth Suicide.
